About Bermic
Formation
Bermic Cheese Specialist was formed in 1981. Within two years the
business opened five cheese shops in Berkshire. With more and more chefs
approaching Bermic and asking for specialised cheeses and delivery; it was decided
after four years the company should concentrate on the wholesale market.
Managing Director Michael Collings decided to set up a distribution base in
Maidenhead, Berkshire.
Geographic Boundary & Product Range
The wholesale business started in Bray, Berkshire, with many hotels and
restaurants asking for its unique service. Bermic now distributes to a wide
geographic area and has moved to new, larger premises in Woodlands Park,
Maidenhead.
Customers are spread around South England,
Midlands and East Anglia. Over the years Bermic has built up an excellent
customer base with most leading hotel groups and contract caterers. As well as
cheese, Bermic also sells associated products like butter, mayonnaise, olives,
various oils, purees, fresh pasta and chutneys.
Van Sales - With The Personal Touch
Bermic has its own fleet of temperature-controlled vans containing more
than 200 cheeses on display. The vans are more than a delivery service. They
are built with supermarket shelving so customers can see the goods on display.
As Michael says, "If we tell customers we
have a new cheese, the name probably means nothing - but if they can see it and
feel the texture, they know exactly what they are buying".
What Makes Bermic Different?
Although most competitors rely on tele-sales service, Bermic prefers the
personal touch. Each customer is given the choice of van or tele-sales service.
The customer can rely on a weekly call by the same Sales Executive. This builds up a close relationship
between customer and Sales Executive, so much so that our sales Executives
often remind chefs what product lines they have missed out & are always
willing to advise on menus, new products and promotions.
Bermic's sales executives are highly trained
and have specialist knowledge of the food industry and hygiene
awareness/regulations. Each sales executive has a mobile phone so customers can
speak to their own salesman for any special requests or queries.
Bermic employs its own independent auditors
(Rowan Associates) who conduct annual audits on the premises and the whole
business.
